The South School PTO Board unanimously and proudly endorses the Stoneham Override

As a parent-led nonprofit dedicated to strengthening the educational experience of every student at South Elementary School, we know passing this override is essential to providing the high-quality learning environment our community and our children deserve.

The consequences of failing to pass the Dec 9th override are severe: the district will be required to reduce 50–60 full-time employee positions and eliminate vital programs such as art, music, STEM, world languages, drama, AP classes, athletics, counseling support, library, and more.

After years of budget cuts, there is nothing left to trim without directly harming the quality of our students' school experience.

The PTO supports the amazing South School community by funding field trips, providing enrichment programs, and leading community events. Without vital town funding, the PTO will be forced to shift its focus, moving away from student enrichment and toward funding necessities like printer paper, basic classroom supplies (markers, glue, pencils), and replacement instructional tools—essential costs that should be covered by the district but will be lost in the budget shortfall.

Passing the override is a responsible, community-driven solution. Supporting it aligns directly with the South School PTO's purpose: ensuring enrichment for students, strengthening partnerships between home and school, and preserving the strong community that makes Stoneham such a special place to raise a family.

We are committed to our educators, families, and students, and we strongly urge all Stoneham residents to vote "YES & YES" on the override. This vote ensures that our children continue to learn in safe, supported, and enriching environments where they can thrive.

Sincerely,South School PTO Board

The override is necessary to continue to provide a high quality education for all of our students. Stoneham has already cut the budget to the bone. There is no more fat to trim. If the override fails to pass, the results will be devastating to our town. 50-60 full time school employees will be let go. Numerous programs including athletics, art, languages, AP classes, and drama will be gone.

Public education is what makes Stoneham, Massachusetts and this country great. It is hands down the best investment we can make. We love this town that we call home and want to continue to invest in it to make it stronger. Participating in the town meetings has shown how much our town officials care about the well being of the town and the tough job they have to balance our tight budget. We are both excited to be voting YES & YES on December 9th!

I am voting yes and yes as I have an elementary age child who requires many specialized education accommodations and services. The impact of a no vote is dire for our family. The town desperately needs to keep qualified teachers and staff to not only provide a decent traditional education, but also the increasing demand of the special needs of many children.

Stoneham High School Class of 2020

I'm supporting the override because Stoneham Public Schools provided me with different opportunities ranging from AP classes, varsity sports, clubs, and afterschool programs to enhance my education. Without these opportunities, I would not have been the well rounded student I was, which helped me achieve my dreams of playing Division I college soccer, attending graduate school, and landing a full time job in my field. The teachers I had and the curriculum used created a consistent and challenging environment for me to be the best student I could be.

I will be voting YES & YES on December 9 because I believe that it is the right decision for my family and my community. I have three children ranging from preschool to 4th grade. I believe in Stoneham Public Schools and want it to continue to be a good school system where every child can thrive. In my family’s experience, we have had the most amazing teachers, administrators, and staff, and I want to make sure the schools are able to retain high quality teachers and attract talented new teachers. I also want to live in a town with strong public safety, public works, and recreation opportunities. We have had to call 911 in the past, and the police and fire were there in minutes! We need sidewalks repaired on our streets, holes filled when the puddles fill with water (and mosquitos!) and much more. Stoneham Recreation department also provides affordable opportunities for camps and activities throughout the year. All these reasons are why I am enthusiastically voting YES & YES!!
